The cheapest protein at FairPrice in Singapore, of 48 foods priced on 7 October 2026, was Fortune tau kwa, at S$0.92 for 30 g of protein (FairPrice). FairPrice's own rolled oats came next at S$0.99 (FairPrice), then its peanut butter at S$1.14 to S$1.19 (FairPrice) and a 15-egg Dasoon pack at S$1.22 (FairPrice). The dearest was cottage cheese, at S$9.90 for the same 30 g (FairPrice).

Protein per dollar: the grams of protein in a whole pack divided by its listed price. Turned round, it gives the cost of 30 g of protein from that pack, which is the figure this article ranks by.

Which foods give the most protein per dollar?

Plain staples, mostly. Of the ten cheapest by cost per 30 g of protein, four are egg packs, two are tofu, two are FairPrice's own peanut butters, and the others are FairPrice rolled oats and a wholemeal loaf.

The full table, by category

Every row links to the FairPrice page its price and protein figure came from. Prices are in Singapore dollars for one unit as listed; "offer" marks a single-unit promotion running that morning, with the regular price beside it. Protein is per 100 g, or per 100 ml for drinks. Rows are sorted within each group by cost per 30 g of protein.

Eggs

Pack protein for eggs counts one nutrition-panel serving (50 to 60 g) as one egg, because the pack weight includes the shell. The panels say "serving", not "egg", so this is an assumption (FairPrice).

How the figures were worked out

Prices are the ones fairprice.com.sg showed a logged-out visitor between about 09:00 and 09:15 Singapore time on 7 October 2026, when the site served its default home-delivery store. In-store and other-store prices may differ.

  • Price: the listed price for one unit. Where a single-unit offer with a struck-through regular price ran that morning, the offer price is used and marked. Multi-buy deals ("any 2 for") are ignored.
  • Protein: from the nutrition table on the product page. Where the page had no table, it was read from the product's label photo on the same page, which the tables mark "label photo". Nothing was taken from memory or another retailer.
  • Formula: grams of protein per S$1 = protein per 100 g × pack weight in grams ÷ 100 ÷ price. Cost per 30 g of protein = 30 ÷ grams per S$1. Drinks use per 100 ml and the pack volume, with no conversion to weight.
  • Eggs: one panel serving counted as one egg, as above.
  • Whole pack: the protein figure is for the pack as sold; drained weights were not available except for the FairPrice tuna.

What the table leaves out

Some of the foods people most often buy for protein are missing, because their pages carried no usable nutrition panel and nothing was estimated. None of the raw chicken breast and thigh pages checked had one, nor the raw lean pork, minced pork and minced beef pages. Salmon and white fish fillets, tempeh, most tofu (silken, egg tofu and the other tau kwa), dried lentils and chickpeas, and frozen edamame are out for the same reason: either no panel, or a protein figure with no stated basis.

FairPrice's own pages disagree on two products, and both are reported as listed. Ayam Brand Sardines in Tomato Sauce lists 9.5 g of protein per 100 g on its 215 g can and 13.2 g on its 425 g can (215 g, 425 g), which is part of why the larger can ranks so much better. Greenfields Fresh Milk Regular lists 6.1 g per 200 ml on its 1 L page, while its 1.89 L page listed 9 g per 236 ml that morning; the table uses the 1 L page (1 L, 1.89 L).

A per-dollar ranking also does not account for calories, protein quality, or how much of a pack is realistically eaten as a protein source. Peanut butter and oats rank high on protein per dollar and are also energy-dense foods; hawker dishes ranked by protein per calorie uses the other measure.

What the numbers say about value

Five things stand out from the capture, all of them about food value:

  • Tofu and the house brand win on price. The two cheapest rows are Fortune tau kwa and FairPrice rolled oats, both under S$1 for 30 g of protein (tau kwa, oats).
  • The bigger egg pack was the better buy. The 15-egg Dasoon pack, at S$1.22 per 30 g, beat every 10-egg pack, which ran from S$1.64 to S$1.98 (FairPrice).
  • Soya milk beat fresh dairy milk. Marigold's unsweetened soya milk came in at S$2.12 per 30 g of protein (FairPrice), against S$3.14 to S$3.51 for the fresh dairy milks in the table.
  • Powder was mid-table. The cheaper whey, at S$2.23 per 30 g, cost more than 13 of the 48 foods, including tau kwa, oats, peanut butter and every egg pack (FairPrice). Choosing a powder is covered in protein powder in Singapore.
  • Dairy tubs were among the dearest. Greek-style yoghurt ran from S$2.98 (on offer) to S$7.12 per 30 g of protein, and cottage cheese was the dearest row in the table at S$9.90 (FairPrice).

How much protein to aim for is a separate question, covered in how much protein you need on a GLP-1 medication. At GetLean, the programme is designed to end, and our philosophy is that the medication is the catalyst and the habits are what you keep; a protein habit that fits the weekly shop is one of them. The plan for coming off is the GetLean GLP-1 Taper Plan: after hitting your goal weight with the right nutrition and exercise habits built, the dose is stepped down at Dr Quek's monthly reviews towards your lowest effective dose and, where clinically appropriate, off the medication.

Prices change, and these are one morning's listed prices from one store view. Anyone with a medical condition affecting diet should speak to a doctor or dietitian.

Common questions

What is the cheapest source of protein at FairPrice?

At the prices FairPrice listed on the morning of 7 October 2026, Fortune tau kwa was the cheapest of 48 foods at S$0.92 per 30 g of protein, followed by FairPrice rolled oats at S$0.99 and FairPrice peanut butter at S$1.14 to S$1.19. Prices change, so the ranking describes that morning.

Are eggs good value for protein in Singapore?

At FairPrice's listed prices on 7 October 2026, eggs ran from S$1.22 per 30 g of protein for a 15-egg Dasoon pack to S$1.98 for a 10-egg Chew's Omega 3 pack. Those figures count one nutrition-panel serving as one egg, because the pack weight includes the shell.

Is whey protein cheaper than food per gram of protein?

Not in this capture. The cheaper of the two whey powders, Nature's Nutrition at 500 g, worked out at S$2.23 per 30 g of protein, more than 13 of the 48 foods, including tau kwa, rolled oats, peanut butter and every egg pack.

Why is raw chicken breast not in the table?

None of the raw chicken breast or thigh pages checked on FairPrice's site carried a usable nutrition panel, so no per-gram figure could be worked out without estimating. The only chicken in the table is a cooked, ready-to-eat breast, at S$4.12 to S$4.47 per 30 g of protein.

How is protein per dollar worked out?

Grams of protein per S$1 is the protein per 100 g times the pack weight in grams, divided by 100, divided by the price. Cost per 30 g of protein is 30 divided by that figure. Liquids use millilitres in place of grams.
